Talk Java to me is an interactive multimedia tutorial that can be tailored to work around your own existing knowledge. So if you know nothing, it will start from scratch, but if you know a little about HTML or C++ then it will work the tutorial in terms of those languages. Included here is the complete introduction which should help you to get to grasps with what Java is all about.
Note that this program has to run in 800x600 screen mode, so make sure you have changed the Display properties to this before running it.
